Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are bishops, priests, and deacons. These persons distribute Holy Communion by virtue of their ordination. Members of the faithful may be delegated to distribute Holy Communion by a bishop (or a priest, on a single occasion). These persons are known as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. In addition to assisting at Mass, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion may also be asked to bring the Body of Christ to the sick and homebound and those in hospitals and nursing care facilities.
To be an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion you must:
* be a fully initiated Catholic (have received all the sacraments of Initiation)
* be in good standing with the church
* be a registered parishioner of St. Cecilia Church
* participate regularly in the sacramental life of the church
* be at least 18 years old
* be properly instructed
